SHOPPERS were plunged into darkness when a powercut hit Harrow town centre shops for 10 minutes this morning.

Lights went out at St George's Shopping Centre and St Ann's Shopping Centre and surrounding stores in St Ann's Road at 11.30pm.

Customers were ushered out of businesses when the electricity failed, and some cash machines stopped working.

Neither shopping centre evacuated visitors, it was confirmed.
