BRENT's most senior policeman is moving on and being replaced by a top cop from south-east London.

The Borough Commander Chief Superintendent Matthew Gardner is changing roles to join the Met Detention Command, which will be introduced next month to centrally manage the force's provision of custody suites by way of 14 clusters across London.

His replacement will be Acting Lewisham Borough Commander, Superintendent Michael Gallagher.

This is Chf Supt Gardner's last week.

Chf Supt Gardner said in his last column for the Observer: "I wish him all the best in his new role and I would like to conclude by repeating what I’ve said on many other occasions while I’ve been at Brent – it’s been a real privilege to serve here as Borough Commander over the last few years, and I’ve been lucky enough to meet some great people, and to lead a team of dedicated and professional officers who try every day to make Brent a safer place for all."
