Four men have been charged after they stole a white van in Matheson Road, last Thursday.
The police helicopter followed the van as it made its way to the A40, before turning round after hitting solid traffic.
Driving back towards the West Kensington area, the van was dumped.
Four men - Michael O'Connor, Richard O'Brian, Michael McDonagh and Patrick Ward - were arrested at Barons Court tube stop and were subsequently charged with the theft.
The van had a tracking device, which alerted police to the theft.
