IN A world saturated by size-zero models, self-made millionaires, and impossibly heroic or philanthropic deeds, it can be demoralising to identify your own successes.

The Best You is a magazine that aims to grab your potential by the horns and bombard you with positivity and enough guidance to help you not only reach your goals but when you get their ready to climb the next mountain.

It may stem from the lucrative American fad of self-help books, but publisher and editor Bernardo Moya says the market for self-improvement is increasingly popular here in the UK and none more so than in the competitive melting pot of London.

The 48-year-old, who lives on the border of Hammersmith and Chiswick in Stamford Brook Road, says: “It’s obviously more and more in demand. People want to improve themselves and with unemployment it’s getting more competitive and difficult out there. So it’s very important to educate and reinvent yourself and be at the peak of whatever it is you do for a living."

The glossy magazine is in its seventh monthly edition, but the website launched two years ago.

Its popularity is demonstrated through the high-profile faces gracing the cover from hypnotist Paul McKenna to legendary music promoter Harvey Goldsmith and celebrity chef Gordon Ramsey. It features five sections dedicated to improving all parts of modern life: Inner You, Enjoy Life, Life Love Legacy, Feel & Look Good, Wealth & Riches.

Mr Moya, 48, was born in London to Spanish parents but grew up in his homeland, returning to the capital with his wife and three children seven years ago. Around this time he started promoting seminars on personal development which lead him to the idea for the magazine.

He said the way to success in your personal and professional life is through constantly improving your skills, knowledge and confidence; this magazine is an educational tool.

"My interests are in personal development because my background is in sales and marketing. I was very interested in finding techniques and ways to become a better communicator,” says Mr Moya. "I think more and more people have to appreciate and understand the world is changing incredibly rapidly and people have to continually be improving themselves.

“The things people seem to lack now is motivation, confidence and self-esteem. Weight loss is another major thing for personal development and the rest is about being able to influence, persuade and communicate - and in that order.”

He added: “Personal development and self-help for many people may be scary or hollow words. But this is an education magazine about improving your life and being the best you basically.

“Everyone wants to be their best they can be in everything they do. Sports people get the best coaches and practice very hard to be at the top of their game. It’s the same in business. People in business spend a lot of money and time employing business advisors and learning from the best.”

Mr Moya also hopes to reach out to young people too, and has plans to set up a 10-day motivational course for unemployed people from 17 to 30.
