EALING'S new mayor was busy planting trees during the Diamond Jubilee celebrations, including one at Allenby Primary School in Southall.

Cllr Mohammed Aslam also reinstated another young sapling in Brent Lodge Park on Sunday, to replace another which had been snapped in half by vandals.

His predecessor Councillor John Gallagher, who organised the council’s jubilee celebrations, said: “Most people will be outraged. I hope the vandals will be caught and punished.”

Red, white and blue were the order of the day for Joyce Dare on the cake stall at the Perivale scouts’ fundraising party, in Stockdove Way, on Saturday, while Ealing Manor Nursing Home also rolled out the bunting.

Perivale cub leader Patricia Green said: “We’re still counting, but we’ve almost reached four figures – that’s double what we expected.

“I saw people I hadn’t seen for 30 years who’d read about it on Facebook. The children had a superb day and people from Ealing Mencap next door came along.”
