HILLINGDON Council is delighted with the central themes of the Mayor of London's recently published planning, transport and economic strategies.

Particular delight centres around the continued support to oppose the expansion of Heathrow and the fact that such opposition is now being reflected in the national debate.

We are also delighted that our views on the importance of both town centres and of the car in outer London is reflected in the future policies.

Our stance of being not anti-motorist is realistic for Hillingdon, and we obviously welcome the serious debate that has begun with TfL officials about two possible express bus routes for Hillingdon. We are now having more dialogue with TfL than we ever did before.

Our final delight is in respect of the importance of RAF Uxbridge as part of the larger Uxbridge town centre, and the creation of a footprint to provide a new 1,200-seat regional theatre.

We look forward to the Mayor of London continuing to ensure that the needs of Hillingdon residents and businesses are promoted on a London-wide platform.
