GLORIOUS flames lit up the night’s sky as Ealing’s Jubilee beacon was lit on top of Horsenden Hill on Monday.

Hundreds of guests and scouts climbed to the summit to enjoy a hilltop barbecue in Greenford and fantastic views right across the borough.

The beacon was finally lit at 10.15pm by Ealing Mayor Councillor Mohammad Aslam to rapturous applause from the crowds.

And the 4th Perivale Scouts raised hundreds of pounds for vital repairs to their ageing scout hut in Stockdove Way after a Jubilee party on Saturday with Cockney pie and mash and old fashioned fair games.

Cub leader Patricia Green said: “It was a superb day. We’re still counting but we’ve almost reached four figures, that’s double what we expected. We were inundated with people on the day. I saw people I hadn’t seen for 30 years who’d read about it on Facebook. The children had a superb day and people from Ealing Mencap next door came along.”
