MORE than a mile of bunting is going up around Ruislip Manor in time for the jubilee weekend.

Ruislip Manor Chamber of Commerce moved quickly to apply for £3,800-worth of the red, white and blue flags to make Victoria Road one of the borough’s most colourful streets.

Hillingdon Council paid for 1,800 metres of bunting from the £15,000 Manor ward budget and Councillor Douglas Mills (Con, Manor) said he was more than happy to approve the spending to celebrate the occasion.

He told the Gazette: “I think we should be celebrating that our monarch has reached 60 years on the throne and we think this is the right use of public money.

“There was a lot of installation costs that had to be covered as well.”

Because Victoria Road is a main thoroughfare it cannot be closed for a street party, but there will be a tea party at Ruislip Manor Library in Linden Avenue on Wednesday next week, from 2pm to 4pm.
