A SUICIDAL man was talked out of jumping off a roof after hours of negotiations with police.

The 55-year-old man was seen standing on top of a roof in Horn Lane, Acton, near the junction of Shalimar Gardens at around 3:30pm on Sunday.

Police and ambulance were called to the scene and the pavement was cordoned off to pedestrians until the early hours of the evening.

A police spokesman said: "Police negotiators were called and after lengthy negotiation, they successfully managed to persuade the man not to jump.

"Officers at the scene aided the man to safety and he was voluntarily taken to Ealing Hospital for further medical checks."

The London Ambulance service confirmed two ambulances and a duty officer arrived to help the man just before 3:30pm.
