A murder investigation has been launched after a man was shot dead in West Ealing.

An ambulance was called at about 8.50pm on Friday to a man shot in an alleyway off Cavendish Avenue.

The scene was still cordoned off this morning as police scoured the area.

Police said that 24-year-old Jason Johnson was pronounced dead at the scene. A post-mortem conducted at Uxbridge gave the cause of death as a gunshot wound to the chest.

DCI Fiona Mallon from Operation Trident is leading the investigation. She said: "I urge anyone who witnessed the shooting or anyone who was in the area shortly before or after the shooting to please come forward to police with information.

"Did you see anyone acting suspiciously in the Cavendish Avenue area at about 8.50pm on Friday November 21?

"Did you see anyone run or drive off at speed from that area shortly before 9pm?"

She added police are keeping an open mind as regards to a motive at this early stage. There have been no arrests so far.
