A naked man running around Chelsea’s streets early this morning (October 31) took a bite out of his own arm before being arrested.

The 55-year-old was seen by London Ambulance Service (LAS) running along Cale Street completely naked while banging on windows.

They called police at 4.45am where officers saw the man smashing a house window so ran after him but he then took a bite out of his own arm, giving himself a serious wound.

He then tried to climb over a six foot spiked fence but was detained by officers before he could do so.

A police spokesman said: “The man was arrested for criminal damage, but due to the serious nature of his arm injury he was taken straight to a central London hospital.

“A 55-year-old man is currently detained at hospital awaiting surgery on his arm. His condition is serious, but stable.”

An LAS spokeswoman said: "We sent an ambulance crew and a responder by car and treated a man for head and arm injuries. He was taken to Chelsea and Westminster Hospital."

Cale Street is one of London's smartest streets, where average property prices are nearly £3 million and is home to celebrity Michelin star chef Tom Aikens' Tom's Kitchen.
