A MAN has tragically died after falling off a station platform and into the path of an oncoming train.

At least 10 police cars and ambulances were called to West Ealing station just after 1pm on Wednesday November 11 to reports of a man being struck by a Paddington to Oxford rail service.

A traumatised ticket officer said a man had been talking on his mobile and was edging towards the platform before being swept onto the lines and hit by the train.

He said: "It's such a tragic waste of life."

A British Transport Police spokesman said: "I can confirm that a person has died after being struck by a train. The incident was reported to police at 1:12pm and was attended by BTP, Metropolitan Police and paramedics from the London Ambulance Service and air ambulance.

"The incident is being treated as non-suspicious and on first accounts, it appears to be a tragic accident.

The train involved was the 12:57pm Paddington to Oxford rail service and the railway line was handed back to Network Rail at 2:15pm.
