POLICE are investigating a murder after a man was gunned down in the early hours of this morning.

Police and ambulance services were called to Marvell Avenue, Hayes, at around 2am to reports of a shooting.

A man in his 30s was found lying on the street with multiple gun shot wounds to the chest, and he died at the scene.

Forensic teams worked through the night, and were still on the scene, close to the footpath leading to the fields behind the roads' houses, this afternoon (24).

The victim's next of kin have been informed, and a post mortem is due to take place later today at Uxbridge mortuary. The inquest has not yet been scheduled.

No arrests have been made. The Metropolitan Police's Trident unit, which specialises in gun crime within London's black communities, is looking into the shooting.

The investigation is being led by Detective Chief Inspector Andy Redwood, of the Homicide and Serious Crime Command.

Residents in the neighbourhood have expressed their shock at the incident.

Marvell Avenue resident Priya Brar lives feet away from the police cordone.

She told the Gazette: "We potentially live in one of the quieter areas of Hayes, and particularly as we have been living there now for 26 years, and being that I take my baby niece to the park during the day, it is very disturbing.

"It doesn't make me very happy in the sense that I come home late at night quite often too, and something as dangerous as this has occured."

Jason Rowlands, who also lives round the corner from the crime scene, said: "We didn't hear any gun shots or anything, but I was woken up by police cars flying down the road at 2.30am.

"You might expect things like this to happen in other parts of London, or even in Hayes Town, but this is a very peaceful neighbourhood. It's crazy."
