A MAN has died following a flat fire in the early hours of this morning (22).
The emergency services were called to Fulham Park Gardens just after 2am after reports that a basement flat had caught alight.
Firefighters rescued the man, bringing him to the ground floor using a ladder, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Juan Carlos, 33, a Charing Cross Hospital anaesthetist who escaped his first floor flat, said: "I was dreaming of a fire and when I woke up I thought 'something smells funny'. Someone knocked on my door and said 'fire! Fire!'
"I tried to get through the front door but the smog was really thick so I went to the third floor."
Seven other people were evacuated from a flat on the building's third floor by crews wearing breathing apparatus.
All received treatment at the scene.
Mr Carlos added: "I am a little bit shocked and sad over what has happened. I am really grateful to everyone that helped us."
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
