A MAN died trying to cross a busy dual carriageway on Friday night.

He suffered terrible injuries when a car collided with him on Uxbridge Road, Hillingdon, just after 9pm.

He was rushed to nearby Hillingdon Hospital in Pield Heath Road, Hillingdon, where he later died from his injuries.

The man, who had not been named by the time the Gazette went to press, was in collision with a black Vauxhall Corsa which stopped at the scene, and the driver is assisting police with their enquiries.

The accident took place on the Hayes-bound carriageway, close to the junction with Marlborough Road, Hillingdon.

A member of staff of a kebab shop opposite, said: "We saw a lot of commotion on Friday and, although we did not see the incident itself, we saw lots of police and ambulance there and blue flashing lights.

"There are a lot of accidents along Uxbridge Road, but there are enough traffic lights, you just have to hope everybody is paying attention. Most people keep to the speed limit because of the speed cameras."

PC Roger Crawley of Alperton Traffic Police said: "We are appealing for witness-es. There would have been a good number of people around or driving past at that time of evening who may be able to help us."

Councillor Jill Rhodes, who represents Hillingdon East, said: "I am sorry to hear about this. We've never had an accident at this exact spot before so this is sad news. Nobody has ever complained that they would like the junction to be made safer."

A post-mortem was carried out at Uxbridge Mortuary, in Kingston Lane, Uxbridge, yesterday (Tuesday). [25cf] Call 020 8998 5319 if you can help police.
