A RUISLIP man has been jailed for harassing an elderly woman on a social networking site.

According to Alan George Spark, 59, of Acorn Grove, admitted sending two messages on Facebook from a house in Southcote Rise, Ruislip, on October 16 and 17.

He was prohibiting from doing this by a restraining order imposed by Uxbridge Magistrates' Court on February 15, 2006. At the court on October 28 he was jailed for six months for the offence.

The aggravating factors in the case which lead to the custodial sentence were multiple breaches of the restraining order, a vulnerable 88-year-old victim and the fact he showed no remorse.

To try and combat the rise in bullying on the internet, Facebook have launched safety tips as part of this year's National Anti-Bullying Week, which started today (Mon).

The theme of the week is cyber-bullying, which is the most common type of bullying after name calling, a recent study by the Department for Children, Schools and Families has revealed.

The five tips are: only accept friends you know, block people who are abusive, report trouble directly to Facebook, keep your information private and don't react to bullies – block, report or delete them.
