A MAN has died of a heart attack after being pulled from a flat fire caused by a suspected arson attack.

Medics desperately tried to resuscitate the 41-year-old in the street outside Wells House at about 1.15pm on Friday, as well as in the ambulance, but he was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at a west London hospital.

A 47-year-old neighbour who asked not to be named, said: "We came back and there were a lot of police and an ambulance. There was a man, he was skinny and white but I didn't see his face, and they were massaging his chest. But then the police told us to go so I didn't see any more."

About ten firefighters and two engines tackled the blaze in Grove Road, who put it out in about an hour and 15 minutes.

The blaze was largely contained within the flat and did little damage to the surrounding block.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

A man has been arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life and bailed to return to a west London police station in May.
