A-62-year-old man has been charged with causing the death of keen Brentford cyclist and active community member Michael Fletcher.

Jamal Kanafani of Hammersmith was charged with death by careless driving, after his Chrysler four-door saloon car collided with Mr Fletcher as he was cycling on the Great West Road last November.

It was a cruel twist of fate that saw 60-year-old Mr Fletcher of Augustus Close in Brentford Dock, killed on the dangerous cycle paths that he tirelessly campaigned to improve.

Mr Fletcher was treasurer of Brentford Community Council and was well known in the area for his campaign work.

Speaking at the time of his death, fellow cyclist Cllr Andrew Dakers, said: “I knew Michael for a number of years and he was a really thoughtful individual, who really cared a lot.”

Kanafani was bailed to appear at Feltham Magistrates court on April 15.
