Dodgy designer handbags were seized from a Bayswater shop after the owner admitted they were fakes.

Ahmad Samim, 34, sold handbags, purses, watches and scarves pretending they were made by brands including Gucci, Chanel, Louis Vuitton and Christian Dior.

At Southwark Crown Court last Thursday he admitted trying to dupe customers into buying more than 200 knock-off couture handbags and fashion accessories.

Samim argued the goods had been ordered by his shop manager and the supplier had told the manager they were authorised to sell the bags.

Judge Gledhill described the defence as 'ludicruous' and said he would escape jail because there were young children relying on him for support.

He sentenced Samim, of Kings Drive, Edgware, to 200 hours of community service and a one year prison sentence suspended for 18 months. He also ordered Samim to pay £1,000.
