AN ANIMAL-lover has won an award for her entry in an art competition.

Ancuta Gurau, 12, a pupil at Kingsbury High School, entered a competition run by campaign group, Animal Aid, aimed at encouraging young people to bring to life their views on how animals are treated.

Ancuta attends an art club at the school in Princes Avenue and was encouraged to enter the competition by her art teacher, Caroline Conway.

The pupil, who painted in watercolour and won in the category for her age, entitled Caring for Animals, said: “I felt really excited when Ms Conway told us about the theme because I like animals and when she told me I had won an award, I was really surprised.”

Animal Aid’s competition organiser, Ben Martin, said: “Young people are passionate about animal welfare and the winners of this competition have certainly considered the treatment of animals in today’s society. Heartfelt congratulations to Ancuta – she richly deserves her award.”
