AN accident involving a lorry and four cars caused severe tailbacks in Ealing and Hillingdon yesterday (July 20) evening.

The incident took place at around 5pm, between the Polish War Memorial and the Target Roundabout in Northolt, at the junction with the A40 Western Avenue and the A312 Church Road just north of Yeading.

Western Avenue heading west was closed off as emergency services cleared the road.

There was also a fuel spillage at the roundabout, and congestion stretched back as far as Staples Corner and the Chiswick Roundabout, in Hounslow.

A London Ambulance Service spokeperson said: "We were called to reports of a road traffic collision involving multiple vehicles.

"We went one single responder, an ambulance crew and a duty officer, who treated a 63 year-old man. He was taken to Hillingdon Hospital with minor head injuries."
