OLYMPIC spectators are being urged to ditch their cars - but Wembley visitors could have to wait more than half an hour for Tube trains during the Games’ busiest periods.

Transport for London (TfL) is warning Wembley Park on the Jubilee and Metropolitan lines, Wembley Central which serves the Overground and Bakerloo lines, and the national rail-only Wembley Stadium stations could be "exceptionally busy" at the end of specific days where football matches finish being played at Wembley Stadium and badminton and rhythm gymnastics end for the day at nearby Wembley Arena.

Based on usage patterns, Tube bosses expect longer waits of more than 30 minutes at the following times at worst-hit Wembley Park:

10am to 11.30pm on Sunday July 29

10am to 11.30pm on Tuesday July 31

7pm to 8.30pm on Wednesday August 1

4.30pm to 6.30pm on Saturday August 4

7pm to 8.30pm on Monday August 6

7pm to 8.30pm on Tuesday August 7

10.30pm to 11.30pm on Thursday August 9

5.30pm to 7pm on Saturday August 11

In a statement, TfL said: "Transport networks are expected to be very busy, and at certain times and certain places will be much busier than usual.

"While around two thirds of Tube and DLR stations won’t be affected, the DLR, Central and Jubilee lines will be exceptionally busy at certain times throughout the Olympic and Paralympic Games."

To motorists, TfL said: "Do not drive to or through central London or around Games venues as these are road ‘hotspot’ areas which will be very busy at Games time.

"Changes to parking and local access around Wembley Stadium and Wembley Arena will discourage spectators from parking in the area and help minimise disruption.

"There will be additional restrictions around the venues for security and operational reasons.

"The parking restrictions and traffic management measures around the stadium will only be in place for football matches, which take place on July 29 and 31 July and August 1, 4, 6, 7, 9 and 11."
