A SCHOOLBOY and a London tour guide are the latest singing talents from Hounslow to shine in the Open Mic UK competition.

Montel Ferguson, of Beaufort Gardens, Heston, and Lindsay Siviter, of Melrose Avenue, Whitton, are both due to compete in the regional finals of the competition on Sunday after making it through the auditions.

Montel, who attends Isleworth and Syon School, will perform a cover of Santana's Maria, Maria at the regional finals in Bedford.

The 15-year-old, who composes his own hip-hop songs, said winning would mean the world to him.

Lindsay, who is a historical researcher and tour guide running Jack the Ripper tours in London's East End, will take to the stage in Portsmouth, after auditioning there while visiting her boyfriend.

The 34-year-old former member of Whitton Choral Society, who is due to travel to Cape Town shortly to research a book about Queen Victoria's physician, said she was thrilled to have got this far.

They are both competing for a place in the area finals, effectively the semi-finals, of the competition, the winner of which will earn a recording contract worth up to £30,000.
