A loaded gun hidden in a laundry basket was discovered by police following a raid on a Shepherd's Bush barber shop.

The revolver was found after officers swooped on Headlines 2000 in Goldhawk Road yesterday afternoon (17), along with cannabis and stolen credit cards and electrical goods.

It follows intelligence gathered by the Shepherd's Bush safer neighbourhoods team that the barber shop was being used to stash and smoke the drug.

The gun was discovered in a bedsit attached to the premises at around 1.30pm.

Two men aged 47 and 50 were arrested on site and taken to Fulham police station for questioning.

Detective sergeant Simon Rogers said: "This was an excellent result which shows how committed we are to tackling drugs and gun crime in Hammersmith and Fulham. To remove a firearm from the streets is particularly satisfying and rewarding."

The raid was seized on as a victory for the 24-7 policing team and the borough's drugs squad, which is part-funded by Hammersmith and Fulham Council.

The council's crime leader, Greg Smith, said: said: "We are determined to make the streets of Hammersmith and Fulham as crime free as possible and applaud the police for taking this potentially lethal weapon out of the hands of criminals."
