The hubbub of a West Kensington congregation is set to be beamed to Liverpool as part of a mind-boggling art project.

St Andrew's Fulham Fields church in Star Road is set to be fitted with a special microphone to pick up sounds made in the building, which will be sent electronically to a Liverpool art gallery and played to culture lovers.

The recording is intended to represent the messages and thoughts inside our brains and forms a piece of artwork called The Fragmented Orchestra.

Vicar of St Andrew's Reverand Martin Eastwood said: "They are going to put a piece of high-tech piece of equipment in the pulpit which will become a loudspeaker.

"All the noise from the projects we run - like the mum and toddler group, fruit and veg sale and homelessness project - will be picked up. We are thrilled to have been chosen to host this exciting project in the church here."

However, listeners will not be able to catch the meaning of the mums' chat or the toddlers' babble as the sound will be broken up into chunks to make a form of music.

The Fragmented Orchestra will connect to 23 other public sites around the country such as a football stadium, motorway crash barriers, Gloucester Cathedral and a school playground.

The exhibition will begin on December 11 and run until February 9, 2009.
