PAINTINGS by schoolchildren, college students and a local artist have helped to brighten up a care home.

Months of hard work came to fruition last Thursday when the works of art were unveiled at Franklin House, in The Green, West Drayton.

Lola Krasser, activity coordinator, said: "Our entrance was just a blank wall, so we asked residents to let us know what they would like to see."

Through Southlands Art Centre, across the road, she was able to commission artist Bernie Collins to paint the two images for free.

Bernie, from West Drayton, painted a waterfall and a secret garden, and children from West Drayton Primary School painted scenes from their school.

Inside the building, Uxbridge College students created a large mural in the residents' games room, named after Marjorie Helen Iles, a former resident.

Mrs Iles' relatives were invited to the unveiling of the artwork.

Painting equipment was donated by Sinita Arora, of Arora Hotels, based at Heath-row, which is a long-term supporter of the care home.

Ms Krasser added: "We want the community to be involved with Franklin House, and that is how it should be. Many care homes are just part of the back-ground. This is a great example of everybody working together."
