The Liberal Democrats have only one councillor on Brent Council after Labour made large gains in this year's local elections.

The party previously had 15 councillors sitting as opposition to the Labour-run council but now only have Helen Carr for the Mapesbury ward.

The new councillor said: "I am excited and looking forward to working with everyone. Although I have never done this type of thing before I have worked in similar situations. Paul has put in enormous amounts of effort and I would like to thank him very much."

Liberal Democrat leader Brent Council Paul Lorber lost his seat in Sudbury by a small margin to Labour councillors Mary Daly, Abdi Aden and Aisha Hoda-Benn.

The Lib Dems did have three councillors in Dollis Hill and Mapesbury, two councillors in Brondesbury Park, Willesden Green and Sudbury and one councillor in Alperton, Queens Park and Welsh Harp.

At the last election the Conservative party won seven seats overall but now have six.

They ran the Kenton ward, had two councillors in Northwick Park and one each in Preston and Brondesbury Park but now have three councillors in Kenton and Brondesbury Park.

Labour will run the north west London borough with a huge majority.

The party has absolute control of the following wards: Kilburn, Fryent, Preston, Dudden Hill, Stonebridge, Kensal Green, Barnhill, Willesden Green, Harlesden, Dollis Hill, Sudbury and Northwick Park.
