BOTH Labour and Conservatives recently failed to fulfil their promises of reforming Parliament in light of the expenses scandals.
Both parties failed to support a Liberal Democrat amendment to make possible recall of MPs who have been suspended by the Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards. This was an opportunity to give real power back to constituents, but the other parties appear to have learned nothing.
This then gets reported as 'all the major parties' have failed to take action or learn from the expenses scandals.
But, in reality, it is the Lib Dems who have long called for, and offered ideas for, the reform of Parliament.
Unfortunately, Labour and Conservative politicians alike are quick with warm words about change, but slow to make it happen.
