The gazette poll on whether the Perivale councillor who continued to claim allowances for attending meetings during a 5 month period when he was abroad and absent from duties should really be asking why he thought he had the right to do so and why no-one stopped him from abusing public money in such a way.

Why wasn’t a stop put on his allowances? Why were there no checks and balances in the system to stop it? His absence must have been noticed so who should have stopped it and failed?

All we keep hearing is that we are in austerity measures and cuts are being made and the council is expecting us to pay more for things like garden waste removal, parking permits and penalties yet obviously some of the same people thinks it’s okay to pay a councillor thousands of pounds to do nothing!

How can there be any trust in such people to manage our local services with propriety and integrity in the light of this scandal?
