AFTER seeing Harrow Council has spent £3,000 making over a privately owned premises in North Harrow ('Bid to entice traders with mock florists', Observer, June 23), I rang a couple of departments at the council to find out why they hadn't employed the services of the local printers to do some of the work.

To be fair, I was impressed by the look of the 'fake florist' and think the council should now be pushing these private landlords into cleaning up their shop fronts in order to improve the look of the area.

Sadly though, the council missed a trick.

On viewing their survey I noticed the prize draw. The prize? Vouchers for Marks & Spencer.

Perhaps a £50 voucher to be spent at one of the many excellent businesses in North Harrow would have been a more thoughtful gesture.
