The Portobello and Golborne Road market justly deserves to be named the Best Outdoor Market in Britain. The strength of the market is its long, rich heritage, the diversity of goods and expertise of traders.
The street traders and small shop keepers are the life blood of our unique market. Our adversaries are clone shops and mini markets which have been created by an investment company, selling mass produced items and tourist tat.
Our high status has been achieved by hard work and regular meetings of three associations represented by stallholders, shop keepers, residents, the Police and RBK&C councillors and officers: the Portobello/Golborne Management Committee, chairman Mark Barr, the Portobello Action Group ,chairman Councillor Nick Paget- Brown and the Portobello Antique Dealer's Association (PADA) chairman Costas Kleanthous.
It is only though this hard work and mutual support that we can pass on our world-wide, excellent reputation as the jewel of RBK&C's crown, to the next generation.
