I WOULD like to echo Anne Skene's sentiments in her letter ('Queen fans would pay for gold star', October 7).

Make no mistake, the man was/is a legend and it was extremely short-sighted of the council to waste money on a below-par memorial to him in Feltham town centre.

Now that it is worn, everything should be done to restore and enhance it as well as make it both weather and future-proof, in addition to installing a befitting plaque at his former home address.

I'm not saying it should be as elaborate as a Hollywood walk of fame star, but it was a false economy to do it so cheaply first time around.

Fans wishing to visit and pay their respects to Freddie's humble beginnings will doubtless spend money in the area, helping to recoup initial costs.

Come on Hounslow, there are precious few tourist attractions in the borough as it is - this is surely an opportunity missed.
