I WRITE in response to Councillor Costello's letter dated February 11 in which he peddles the Tory lie that it is Labour's debt and therefore Labour's fault that cuts are being made.

He obviously has been part of the Tory party's collective coma for the past few years and missed the global banking crisis brought about by the mis-selling of mortgages etc across the world.

He refuses to blame the bankers and one can only ask is this because they are bankrolling his party?

He blames Labour for borrowing and investing in this country through the very rough times of 2008 to 2010 and, in his right-wing world, we should have let the banks crash, losing their customers' savings, not investing in our infrastructure, losing thousands of jobs with the resultant long-term damage to our economy.

When the former Labour government's policies had turned our economy away from a depression and was starting to give us quarter-onquarter growth, what do we get, a Tory-led government that pulls us back into recession with their slash and burn policies.

Mr Costello then goes on to to quote from Harold Macmillan, who he thinks was a Labour prime minister, to try to prove his point but his political history appears as accurate as his economics as Harold McMillan was a Tory.

Like his party (if he knows which one he is in) he has failed at his maths, economics, politics and history. So back to school for Costello and we hope it will be back to the ballot box for the Tories.
