COUNCILLORS Lourie and Knight defend their decision to include only private housing in their controversial scheme for Twickenham Riverside by stating they are committed to providing 160 units of affordable housing elsewhere.

I should be grateful for the opportunity to inform readers that: a) 160 units actually refers to habitable rooms and not the number of proposed houses or flats, which is considerably less and b) the 160 refers to social, rented housing and does not include affordable housing for key workers or those looking for shared ownership.

When discussing priorities, this administration decided there was less need to provide the latter type of affordable housing and they have already been warned that they should make the distinction between the two clear.
