Homeowners in Ickenham and Harefield were offered a revised compensation package under measures announced by the Department for Transport in April.

Areas beyond the tunnel portal at West Ruislip are now considered ‘rural’ and as such are eligible for new measures including a revised Voluntary Purchase Scheme, Homeowner Payment Scheme and an alternative cash offer.

But the new compensation packages did not satisfy  people living above the HS2 tunnel through South Ruislip and Ruislip Gardens, who are still in limbo with no offer of compensation yet, as they are considered an urban area and are not included within the ‘surface safeguarded area’  of up to 60m.

Transport Secretary Patrick McLoughlin launched the latest consultation on Tuesday, July 8, seeking views on the new relief offered to homeowners who live along phase one of the route, from London to Birmingham.

HS2 was forced to consult for a second time after  the High Court ruled in March last year that the 2011 consultation on compensation for phase one of the route, from London to Birmingham, was flawed .

At the time, Lord Justice Ouseley deemed it ‘so unfair as to be unlawful’.

The consultation closes on 30 September 2014. More information on the consultation is available from the Government here .
