A HOUNSLOW headteacher has picked up an award for her 'outstanding contribution'.

Sue John, head of Lampton School and director of the London Secondary Leadership Strategy, was presented with the National College Recognition Award for Outstanding Contribution to System Leadership.

The award, the first of its kind, was made jointly to Mrs John and the headteacher of a school in Lewisham.

During her leadership, London's schools have progressed from being one of the weakest regions in the country to the strongest.

Mrs John said: "Nothing is achieved in education except through team work. I have been more than fortunate to work with an outstanding group of committed and professional colleagues."
