A LANDSLIDE victory is being celebrated by the Labour Party after their candidate won the Townfield By-election.

Tony Eginton is now the new councillor for the ward after receiving 1,031 votes which is more than double the Liberal Democrats who came second with 506 votes for Roy Chamdal.

The conservative candidate, Kashmir Pahal came third with 445 votes and Denis MacDonald for The British National Party came fourth with a 186 votes.

Andrew Cripps standing for The National Front received 74 votes and Catriona Corfield for the Green Party won 33 votes.

The polls took place last night (July 17) and were counted at the Salvation Army Hall in Coldharbour Lane, Hayes.

The by-election has taken place after the previous holder of the seat, Councillor Norman Nunn-Price, died on May 16.
