THE Labour Party could be on the verge of causing a major upset in the Ealing and Hillingdon seat of the London Assembly.

According to the count-monitoring website London Elects, Conservative incumbent Richard Barnes, who is also deputy mayor of London, is trailing Labour's Dr Onkar Sahota with nearly 80 per cent of votes counted and verified.

Counting for the seat, one of 14 constituencies on the 25-member London Assembly, is taking place at Olympia in west London.

In the mayoral race, Boris Johnson is leading Labour's Ken Livingstone and has polled well in Ealing and Hillingdon.

In the party lists count, which will elect a further 11 members of the London Assembly in addition to the 14 constituency seats, Labour are on top, with the Conservatives second and the Green Party a surprise third ahead of the Liberal Democrats.
