Konnie Huq has become the latest ambassador to trial an electric car with low emissions.

The former presenter of Blue Peter and the Xtra Factor , of Ealing , has been testing out the BMW i3 extended-range electric vehicle to support the Go Ultra Low campaign.

The campaign is a partnership between the UK automotive industry and the Government and is designed to encourage more drivers to consider ultra low emission vehicles (ULEVs).

As a busy working mum Ms Huq was initially wary that while ULEV vehicles looked good they were not practical for young children. However after a two month trial she said: “It really is the best of all worlds. It’s very economical and charging it up is really easy; I can get my kids in and it’s really fitted in well with my family lifestyle.”

The vehicle has Bluetooth with USB audio interface, sat navigation, DAB digital radio with media input via Aux-In or USB connection and a Neodym sound system.

Ms Huq added: “If someone was considering buying one of these cars now, I’d say do it. They’re not just economical in terms of fuel costs but you are also saving on congestion charge, road tax and there are many benefits with free parking provided in all sorts of places.”
