A LATE-NIGHT off-licence in Hounslow could close after police raised concerns it was helping fuel crime in the area.

Police have called for the managers of Raja Superstore, in Kingsley Road, to be stripped of their licence.

The store, near Hounslow East tube station, is currently open until 3am seven days a week.

Police originally requested the opening hours to be slashed until 11pm, only to change their mind and call for the licence to be revoked ahead of a licensing panel meeting last Wednesday (February 8).

A decision on the store's future is now due to be made by the licensing panel on March 13.

Hounslow Police licensing officer PC Simon Lawrence said Kingsley Road had become a hot spot for booze-fuelled crime and antisocial behaviour over the last two to three years.

He said the majority of incidents occurred in the early hours of the morning and the rise in crime corresponded to the store extending its opening hours.

Mr Lawrence claimed staff at the store have in the past given customers plastic cups and kept a bottle opener on a piece of string near the serving hatch.

He also accused the shop's managers of selling counterfeit alcohol and having problems with the CCTV system.

However, a lawyer representing the store disputed these claims and called for the licensing review to be adjourned.
