Plans to open a lap dancing club in a residential part of West Kensington have been greeted with horror.

Rachel Marlowe from Mornington Avenue has collected more than 60 signatures on a petition against the club above the former Fox pub in North End Crescent.

The journalist, who has two sons, Asa, five and Samuel, seven, said: "This is a quiet residential area and it is totally unsuitable for a sex industry establishment. I do not live in Soho and if I wanted to live near something like this, I would move to Soho. Thinking about something like this at the top of my road makes me feel physically sick."

The 34-year-old said many parents taking children to Avonmore Primary School in Avonmore Road and St James' Independent Schools for Boys and Girls Schools in Earsby Street would have to walk past the club.

Fulham Reach councillor Paul Bristow said the area was 'absolutely unsuitable' for a lap dancing club. He added: "There is a library next door which is visited by children and their parents. I will certainly make representations to the licensing committee to tell them what a bad location this is."

Passion Nights Ltd has applied to Hammersmith and Fulham Council for a licence for the club called the Kensington Suite. Director David Moynihan said: "It will be a very controlled adult environment. There will be Security Industry Approved door staff and a sophisticated camera system. The opening hours are somewhat out of school hours."
Mr Moynihan could not say when the club is due to open.
