AN ARMY of Boris bikes look likely to flood the borough as the first of 34 planning applications was approved at this week's planning meeting.

In September 2012 the Mayor of London announced that Phase Three of the London Cycle Hire Scheme would be extended across south west London.

As part of this extension Transport for London (TfL) are planning to provide further docking stations in the Royal Borough of Kensington & Chelsea.

Since the announcement the Council has been working closely with TfL to identify docking station sites that will provide the maximum benefit to residents, while minimising the impact on parking spaces.

Subject to the planning process, TfL hope to start installing the first of the new docking stations this summer.

Councillor Nick Paget-Brown, Deputy Leader of the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, said: "From the beginning of the Mayor’s Cycle Hire scheme we have been keen supporters of it. If planning permission is given for the latest round of docking stations I am sure that our residents will welcome the greater flexibility and convenience they will offer.

"Increasing the number of bikes available in the borough will, I am sure, encourage even more residents to make use of the scheme."
