X Factor's Katie Waissel, a former Pinner schoolsgirl,  narrowly survived the chop in yesterday's sing-off.

The 24 year-old from Harefield had to fight for her place in the next round after a lacklustre rendition of Queen's 'We Are The Champions' on Saturday's (9) live show.

She was criticised by Louis Walsh, who said she was 'more style than substance', and she found herself in the bottom three following a public vote.

Italian Nicolo Festa, 24, was first to be eliminated in yesterday's (10) episode, and Ms Waissel and boy band FYD had to perform again to keep their place in the show.

She sang 'Don't Let Me Know' by The Beatles, and all the judges apart from mentor of the groups, Simon Cowell, opted to save Ms Waissel from the chop.

Her family run the trendy DNK boutique in High Street, Pinner, and her father told the Observer that the inspiration for her outlandish outfits and unique style came from years of working behind the till and rifling through the clothes racks.
