SQUATTERS who have occupied the house owned by MPs Ann and Alan Keen have been ordered to leave by a judge.

In a lively court hearing at Brentford Crown Court today (Friday), 11 squatters argued that 'fraudulent' expenses claims by the Keens had given taxpayers the right to take over the property in Brook Road South, Brentford.

District Judge Plaskow commended the defendants on their representations but issued a interim possession order – meaning the squatters must leave the house within 24 hours of it being served.

Mr and Mrs Keen, who represent Feltham and Heston and Brentford and Isleworth respectively, were not in court but will not have been cheered by news earlier in the day that they are to be investigated by Parliament's standards watchdog over their expenses claims.

The squatters took over the property on June 26 after the Chronicle revealed the couple had been claiming almost £40,000 a year on a mortgage on a central London home while their 'main home' lay empty.

The squatters, who chanted 'We all live where the Keens are never seen' in court before proceedings started, were philosophical after the verdict and vowed to make the most of their last few nights in the house.

James Lloyd, a barman who has been living in the house, said: "We lost as we expected but it was hilarious. We are going to go and have a real good party and enjoy our last few days in the Keens' house.

"As for the Keens, the whole thing is disgusting. They should be held accountable for this."

Another hearing is due to take place next week to establish who should have permanent possession of the house.
