A NUMBER of residents' groups in West Ealing (Five Roads Forum, Kingsdown Residents Association and West Ealing Neighbours) are working together, initially at least, to look at ways to improve pedestrian safety at the Lido Junction where the Uxbridge Road meets Northfield Avenue and Drayton Green Road.

At this busy junction only one of the four crossings has pedestrian lights to allow safe crossing on foot. To cross any of the other three arms of the junction pedestrians have to take their life in their hands and make a dash for it and hope for the best.

We believe this is unacceptable and, as Ealing Council has so far been unsuccessful in addressing this problem, we have decided to look at ways in which we can suggest pedestrian safety be improved.

We are well aware that there is a balance to be struck between traffic

flow and pedestrian safety, but at present, we believe the balance is wrong and almost entirely in favour of road traffic.

We believe there are ways to redress this bias and are keen to hear from your readers both about their experiences when crossing on foot at this junction and their ideas on how pedestrian safety can be improved.

West Ealing Neighbours is holding a public meeting on Thursday, June 25 at St John's Church in Mattock Lane (start 7.30pm), where the Lido Junction will be discussed and everyone is very welcome to come along with their comments and ideas.

Alternatively, please contact us by e-mail at westealingneighbours @gmail.com or post your comments on our forum at www.westealing neighbours.org.uk.

Many thanks. DAVID HIGHTON
