A JLS pop star congratulated children and young people in Hillingdon at a special awards ceremony for outstanding youngsters in care.

Boy band member JB Gill gave prizes to the winners of the Kids in Care Awards, hosted by Hillingdon Council.

The ceremony recognises young people who have overcome their circumstances and made an outstanding achievement in their lives - from making good progress at school to excelling in sport or making a contribution to the community.

One the winners had received their awards from singer JB, the audience were treated to a performance from pop group KIN.

The award ceremony was held at the Sofitel Hotel in Heathrow and was organised with help from a panel of young people who are ex-Kids in Care Award winners.

Councillor David Simmonds, Deputy Leader of the council and cabinet member for education and children’s services, said: “We are proud of how our looked after children are overcoming difficult circumstances to achieve personal success.

“I’d like to congratulate everyone who received an award, their stories are a real inspiration and it’s important to recognise and celebrate their achievements.”
