The girlband Jewelz - started by a West Kensington receptionist - has survived the first round of a talent show and is now hunting for a fifth member.

Jewelz is the brainchild of Lena Sami, 27, who works at Virgin Active Gym in Lillie Road, Fulham. The band has won through to the next round of the Vodaphone Live and Unsigned competition, which is due to be screened on Sky TV. They are one of 50 bands selected from 500 acts.

Lena said: "We are looking for somebody who can sing and dance. Ideally, she also needs to be between 20 to 26 and 5ft 4in and 5ft 7in tall. We write and choreograph all our own songs."

The receptionist said the idea behind Jewelz is that, like gemstones, each band member is different. The band, which Lena says performs 'pop R&B,' practices in dance studios at Virgin Active three times a week.

She added: "We are a bit too busy to socialise at the moment, but we did all go to Sugar Hut in North End Road."

The first 'gem' Lena recruited was Gemma Meissner, 26, a fellow Virgin Active receptionist. Other members are Gem-Marie Sloley, 24 and Havva Ramadan, 23. They face their next hurdle on March 29 when there will be another live audition to whittle down surviving contestants.
