THE November 17 edition of the Gazette contained a report about the imprisonment of Ratana Charvey, who was a carer (Carer in jail for deceit, Ruislip-Northwood Gazette).

I would like to say something in defence of her character.

For the past two years she did an excellent job looking after my mother, who was in her nineties.

She was so conscientious and thorough that she often ran late. Maybe this fact led to her doing something that was out of character.

My mother was blessed with excellent carers most of the time, but there are a few that should not be in the job.

On two occasions I witnessed carers pretending not to notice soiled underwear that needed to be changed. Ratana would never have done that.

I think it is a pity that she is permanently banned and, if my mother were still with us, I would have been happy to hire her privately.
