I, like RoyWicks of Feltham, am a Londoner born and bred, so if he thinks he is making some sort of point about perceived favouritism towards Polish people, he needs to think again (letters, August 21).

May I remind Mr Wicks that this country went to war in 1939 as Hitler invaded Poland, and many people helped the UK out in the war effort.

There has been a shift to Eastern Europeans joining our community, so the police have wisely made a move of inclusion.

I do agree local police could do more in the 'war on crime', though your article on the Chiswick High Road attack made myblood boil. Braining is too good for the offenders.
