It is good to see democracy alive and well in Hillingdon - 143 complaints are received about the car boot sales at Field End School [School sales are booted out, RuislipNorthwood Gazette, January 21], 311 people are in favour and the council turns it down?

The boot sales bring income and people into the area, the very lack of which people we were bemoaning following the demise of Woolworth's in Eastcote recently.

I cannot follow the logic of the local resident who says: "It is the wrong area for a car boot sale".

I would say that being visible from a main road, on a bus route and accessible to a great deal of people was the perfect place for a sale of any kind.

Not only local residents but more importantly the local school now also loses income.

If you would like an area where no one has any reason to visit then decisions like this are perfect, but if you want a vibrant and successful local community then it is most definalty not.

Just to prove that grasp of numbers are not the planning committee's strong point, they approve 19 antiques and table top fairs but turn down 12 boot sales in the same place.

There really is no logic in this decison at all.
